Cabgolin 0.25 is a prescription-grade prolactin-lowering medicine made by Sun Pharma, one of India's largest pharmaceutical companies. Its active substance is Cabergoline (Cabaser), supplied in a pack of 4 tablets of 0.25 mg each. Cabergoline is active in very small amounts, so this low strength suits the careful, test-guided approach the substance requires.
What Cabergoline Is and How It Works
Cabergoline (Cabaser) is an ergot-derived dopamine agonist. It stimulates dopamine D2 receptors in the pituitary gland, and dopamine is the main signal that tells the pituitary to hold back the release of prolactin. As a result, prolactin levels in the blood fall.
In medicine, cabergoline is prescribed for hyperprolactinaemia, prolactin-secreting pituitary tumours and the suppression of lactation. One of its defining features is a long half-life of several days, which is why it is taken far less often than most other oral medicines and why changes in dose take time to show up in blood results.
Why Cabgolin 0.25 Is Used in Sport
Nandrolone and trenbolone are progestogenic steroids, and in sensitive users they can raise prolactin. Elevated prolactin can blunt libido and sexual performance and is linked to some of the side effects people attribute to these compounds. Cabgolin 0.25 is used to:
- keep prolactin within the normal range during cycles that include nandrolone or trenbolone;
- help prevent loss of libido and erectile problems linked to high prolactin;
- help avoid prolactin-related nipple sensitivity and discharge (galactorrhoea);
- support hormonal recovery as part of a post-cycle therapy plan when prolactin is still raised.
Cabergoline does not lower oestrogen, so it is not a replacement for an aromatase inhibitor or a SERM.
Use and Safety
Cabgolin 0.25 is for adults only. It should not be used by people with a history of heart valve disease, fibrosis of the lungs or other organs, uncontrolled high blood pressure or serious liver impairment. Medicines that block dopamine, such as some antipsychotics and anti-nausea drugs, reduce its effect, and certain macrolide antibiotics can increase its level in the blood.
Because the substance is long-acting, the dose and how often it is taken should be decided individually with a qualified medical professional and checked against prolactin blood tests. Lowering prolactin too far brings its own problems, so testing matters more than guesswork.
Possible Side Effects
At low doses cabergoline is usually well tolerated, but the following effects are known:
- nausea, stomach discomfort and loss of appetite;
- dizziness or light-headedness, especially when standing up quickly;
- headache, tiredness and drowsiness;
- low mood or, in rare cases, impulsive or compulsive behaviour.
Long-term use at high doses has been associated with heart valve changes, which is one more reason to use it only under medical supervision and with regular check-ups.
